Stupid Writers

Warning: May contain an angry rant
This is so true. I deal with people like this all the time. All. The. Time.
PET PEEVE #1
When people brag about having written a novel. Sometimes they’re justified, but if it’s a 100-page fanfic of some well-known series that you’ve put on Lulu, please don’t bother. And especially don’t brag if I read the excerpt you post and it looks like a fifth grader wrote it. (Who knows? Maybe you were in fifth grade. It might explain a lot. You know who you are, too.)
PET PEEVE #2
When people talk about how they have writer’s block. All right, I get it, you’re stuck, but I don’t want you trumpeting it in the forums. What are we supposed to do, write it for you? Honestly I don’t believe in writer’s block. Either a story’s working or it isn’t; once in a while you’ll be stuck for a few hours but if you’ve been honestly, not-just-lazy stuck for a few days, something’s wrong with the story.
PET PEEVE #3
When people feel all tortured- artist for writing poetry.
No. Just, no. Great, you can slap some words in a random order and stanzas. Believe me, I know there are some truly gifted poets out there, but don’t expect me to be impressed that you can write a bunch of self- pitying depressed poems. Some people can pull it off, though, so don’t feel like I’m automatically insulting you, please. (If you do, though… well, there might be a reason for that, sorry.)
PET PEEVE #4
When people post things on Lulu without editing them. If I’m reading the sample I don’t want to have to decode your grammar, nor do I want to see things wrong in the plot already. Have some self- respect- heck, have respect for all the other self-publishing writers. It’s not going to be perfect at first, so please don’t put it up for sale until it’s gleaming and polished.
Sorry for the rant, but I need to vent about some things I’ve been seeing.
